FOR THE BUSINESS YOU’RE STARTING

Startup Business Funding: What to Know Before You Apply

A new business can need capital before it has a long operating history. Start with what the money will pay for, how repayment will work, and which funding options actually fit your stage of business.

BEFORE YOU START

Can a startup get business funding without revenue?

Some credit-based startup programs consider applicants before the business has revenue or an operating history. Other products—such as revenue-based financing, term loans, and lines of credit—may require established deposits, time in business, and other financial evidence. “Startup funding” is not one universal loan with one set of rules.

Viera Investment Group LLC is a brokerage. We help you explore potential funding options and understand the next step. The applicable provider determines eligibility, credit authorizations, approval, and final terms. Availability depends on the program, business, borrower, and location.

STEP 1

Decide what the money needs to do.

Write down the amount requested and the specific expenses it will cover. Examples might include equipment, inventory, software, marketing, or other business costs—but the provider must confirm which uses are permitted.

Separate one-time setup expenses from recurring bills. Add the dates you expect to spend the money, the revenue you expect to generate, and the cash you will use to make payments if sales start more slowly than planned. A credit limit is borrowing capacity, not revenue or profit.

Funding pathWhat to ask about
Credit-based startup fundingActual product type, personal credit, guarantees, fees, permitted uses, and repayment
Business line of creditOperating history, revenue, draw fees, interest, renewal terms, and payments
Equipment financingEquipment quote, startup eligibility, deposit, collateral, and ownership or lease terms
Revenue-based financingRequired existing sales, daily or weekly withdrawals, total repayment, and sales-based adjustments

Explore the business funding program examples to narrow the conversation. Examples are not personal offers.

Your action

Write a simple use-of-funds list: the expense, amount, and date you expect to pay it. Separate one-time launch costs from recurring operating expenses.

STEP 2

Understand what “credit-based” means.

If a new business has little financial history, a provider may place substantial weight on the owner’s personal credit, existing obligations, credit history, and other underwriting factors. A credit-based program is not necessarily unsecured, free of personal guarantees, or available solely because a score exceeds a stated threshold.

Ask whether the proposed product is a loan, business credit card, line of credit, or another arrangement. Ask who is providing the funding, how many applications may be submitted, which credit checks you are authorizing, and whether the resulting debt is reported personally or commercially. Do not assume that every review is a soft inquiry.

A recently formed LLC does not, by itself, establish business creditworthiness or guarantee an approval. If borrowing through an entity, confirm the lender’s requested documents; Viera does not provide company formation or structuring services.

Your action

Before authorizing credit, ask which product you are applying for, whose credit is reviewed, whether the inquiry is hard or soft, and whether a personal guarantee applies.

THE DETAILS

What does 0% startup funding actually mean?

Some credit-based offers may include an introductory promotional rate. Before comparing them, ask which transactions receive that rate, when the period begins and ends, which payments are required, and what rate applies afterward. Purchase promotions may not cover cash advances or balance transfers.

Also account for annual, transfer, cash-advance, processing, brokerage, or other applicable fees. An offer advertised with a promotional interest rate is not necessarily free funding. The FDIC’s credit card guidance explains why transaction types, fees, and promotional periods need separate attention.

Plan for the end of the promotion

For illustration only, paying off a $20,000 balance across a hypothetical 12-month promotional period would require about $1,667 per month before fees or additional charges. The issuer’s minimum payment could be much smaller and still leave a balance when the promotional rate ends.

This is simple balance planning, not a statement that a particular issuer offers those terms or that a minimum-payment schedule will clear the debt.

STEP 3

Prepare for a useful funding conversation.

Have your requested amount, use of funds, business location, time in business, estimated credit, and revenue information ready. A pre-revenue business should say so plainly. Do not invent deposits or operating history to fit a product.

The documents required depend on the program. An established business product may request bank statements and financial records. A credit-based startup path may follow a different process. If an LLC is the applicant, ask whether the provider needs formation records, EIN confirmation, an operating agreement, ownership information, and signing authority.

Your initial Viera inquiry is a short callback request. Do not put Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or identity documents into that form. Review any later provider application and authorizations before submitting.

The business funding calculator can help you explore a planning scenario. Its editable assumptions are not a lender’s qualification formula and it does not predict approval.

Your action

Have your business location, stage, funding purpose, and contact details ready. You can request a Viera callback before sharing detailed financial documents with a provider.

Know what you need, but not where to start?

Tell Viera what your business needs the money to do. A conversation can help clarify the questions to ask before a separate provider application.

THE DETAILS

Can startup funding pay for an investment property?

Some investors explore business-purpose credit for a property cash shortfall. That is a separate question from startup eligibility: the primary property lender must accept borrowed funds, and all payments must fit the project. Read how investor gap funding works before treating a credit approval as a down payment.

Do not assume it can. Permitted uses under the business funding agreement and acceptable funds under the property lender’s rules are separate questions. Borrowed money may not be accepted as a required equity contribution, reserve, or down payment.

If your real goal is buying a flip, rental, or development site, start with the first-time investor financing guide. We can discuss the property financing and business funding separately, with any proposed combination disclosed to the providers.

SBA funding is also not a general house-flipping solution. The SBA’s lender-matching guidance says an SBA-approved loan cannot be used to flip a house. Its microloan guidance says proceeds cannot purchase real estate. Those are educational references, not statements that Viera offers SBA products.

THE DETAILS

Compare the full offer, not just the headline.

  • How much cash or usable credit will you actually receive?
  • What is the product, and which uses are permitted?
  • What fees apply before and after funding?
  • What payments are due, how often, and for how long?
  • Does a promotional rate expire, and what happens afterward?
  • Are personal guarantees or collateral required?
  • What happens if revenue is delayed or you repay early?

The right next step is a conversation about your business and the written terms available—not borrowing the largest amount advertised.

A few questions before you start.

Can a new business apply before it has revenue?

Some credit-based startup options consider pre-revenue businesses. Many other products require operating history and revenue. The provider must review your circumstances and determine eligibility.

Is startup business funding automatically 0%?

No. Promotional rates depend on the actual product and issuer offer. Duration, covered transactions, fees, required payments, and the rate afterward must be confirmed in writing.

Does forming an LLC guarantee business funding?

No. Providers assess the borrower and business under their own requirements. Viera does not provide LLC formation or structuring services.

Will the Viera callback form pull my credit?

No. The initial Viera callback form does not perform or authorize a credit pull. A provider’s later application may involve separate credit authorizations.

Where does the business funding application go?

The direct application on Viera’s business funding page goes to Reveal Lending. The short Viera callback form goes to Viera for a conversation before any separate provider submission.
